GER 1920. Regie: Karlheinz Martin. Camera: Carl Hoffmann. 74 min silent, with music by Christian Roderburg. DCP

Georg Kaiser’s expressionist play about the cashier of a bank who one day tries to break out of his bourgeois existence was transformed into a consistently expressionist silent film by director Karlheinz Martin and cinematographer Carl Hoffmann. The radicalism of the production frightened the cinema industry at the time, so that the film never made it into German cinemas.
