In May 2021 we had planned to show part of the film program of cinefest 2020 that got cancelld in November 2020 in the Mertopolis cinema. Unfortunately, due to the ongoing lockdown, this program also had to be cancelled as an on-site event in the cinema.
However, we are pleased to be able to show some of the films in the virtual cinema hall of the Metropolis Cinema, Metropolis+.
After the kick-off on May 14-16, 2021, on the occasion of DEFA’s 75th anniversary, more films will follow on May 20 and 27, respectively, and will be available on Metropolis+. They are usually online for 7-14 days (please note the individual running times of the programs) and can be viewed within a Metropolis+ subscription or after purchasing an individual ticket.
The program is complemented by film talks and introductions, which can be viewed here and during the run of the films also on Metropolis+.

From 14 – 16. May 2021 Rainer Simons Film Wie heiratet man einen König (GDR 1968) was shown on Metropolis+!
Ralf Schenk and Hans-Michael Bock talk about Joop Huisken and his film Daß ein gutes Deutschland blühe, which was made in 1959 for the 10th anniversary of the GDR and which exists in two versions. Tip from Ralf Schenk: Be sure to watch the original version with commentary by Stephan Hermlin!
From May 14 – 16, 2021, this version as well as the official version with commentary by Karl-Eduard von Schnitzler was shown on Metropolis+.
