Film heritage often owes its preservation to chance. An important example is the collection of the Dutch film distributor Jean Desmet, which is now housed as the Desmet Collection in the Eye Film Museum and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is thanks to this that some early German silent films have been preserved. Archivists, experts and restorers discuss the history of film distribution and the importance of film distributors for the preservation of film heritage. Following the event, Ivo Blom will present a selection of German silent films from the Desmet collection at 14:00.
